Bye Bye Bob

Our regular projectionist Bob Mees is heading abroad for a year. To celebrate his unwavering dedication to OFFoff, we’re turning his final screening of the season into something special. This evening, he will decide the random order in which the film’s nine reels are shown. Each reel corresponds to a separate chapter of differently, Molussia, a work based on a book the filmmaker had neither read nor been able to read. Die molussische Katakombe by Günther Anders is a German novel from the 1930s, taking the form of a dialogue between two citizens of a fictional fascist country, Molussia. Filmmaker Nicolas Rey, co-founder of the Paris-based film lab L’Abominable / Navire Argo, is forced to imagine a narrative much like we are: built from an incomplete story, weaving fragments from Anders’ book together with field recordings and images of a dreamed-up country.
