In collaboration with Shhh, the film festival of Monokino in Ostend (26 – 27 September), we are delighted to welcome filmmaker Adriana Vila Guevara.

On Saturday evening, Adriana Vila Guevara will close the festival with KALKIIN (In the Throat of the Sun), a 16mm film performance with live music on the beach. In the wake of the festival, OFFoff presents a screening of her films on Monday evening, with space for conversation. We previously welcomed Adriana Vila Guevara for a performance in 2017.

Free admission with a Shhh weekend pass!

Adriana Vila Guevara (Caracas, 1981) is an artist, filmmaker and anthropologist based in Barcelona. Her work embraces the materiality and immateriality of film combining analogue-photochemical and video formats, as single-channel, film performance and installation. Influenced by a questioned and insightful relation with the world and the self, her interests encompass the intersection between poetics and politics, and how cinema can explore and transform states of consciousness, as a useful stimulation for the times we are living, and the times to come. Doctor and Master’s degree in Anthropology, she collaborates with national and international universities, film and art institutions, passionately teaching non-fiction film practices, different approaches to anthropology and ethnographic methodologies for the arts, as well as experimental photochemical laboratory practices. Co-founder of the independent analog film lab Crater-Lab, during the past decade she has devoted to developing and sharing DIY processes for analogue filmmaking. Currently she is working on her second feature film, as well as the design and creation of La Numinosa, a creative platform focused on developing social environmental, embodied awareness, through arts, spirituality and regenerative cultures.

Intertropical Vision

ES/VE • 2018 • 5' • colour • 16mm

Contrary to the standardization of a single hegemonic point of view, the center” in the tropics is not the whole. It is the starting point of a powerful range of visions. This is a trip into the core of its multiple indomitable condition.

The Womb

ES • 2021 • 4' • b&w • digital

The womb
Rattles its pod, the moon
Discharges itself from the tree with nowhere to go.

My landscape is a hand with no lines,
The roads bunched to a knot,
The knot myself,

Myself the rose you acheive —
This body,
This ivory

The Knots We Knot

ES • 2022 • 8' • colour • digital

A careful translation of shared thinking. An applied sketch of becoming and generating-with. Intertwined trail walkers. A silhouette of the reflexive encounter, in its most mundane condition. Becoming what the other suggests. Accepting the proposal of subjectivity. Apprising the way in which everything is addressed to each other. Opening versions like books, in the exercise of rope figures, speculating the stories to continue.

Reduced to her essence, she quests, she embodies Growing Downwards” as a path into the deep ecology. The path as a mirror to evoke the own reflection. Recognizing the need of a profound unfolding, and oscillating in it subtle.
